Cork Learning City - structure Cork Learning City is a partnership that co-ordinates the development of Cork as a Learning City. It involves four lead partners: Cork City Council, Cork Education and Training Board, Munster Technological University, University College Cork, and 2 strategic partners – HSE Cork Kerry Community Heathcare and the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals. These partners have committed themselves to working together on this agenda and have formed a Working Group called GLLiC - ‘Growing Lifelong Learning in Cork’ – with a wide range of other learning partners Cork and UNESCO The engagement of people and partners with the Lifelong Learning Festival since 2004 has made Cork a living Learning City. This was recognised by UNESCO, who presented Cork with a Learning City Award in 2015, one of the first 12 cities to achieve this award worldwide, and one of only 48 cities in all to be awarded to date. When UNESCO selected Cork to host the 3rd International Conference on Learning Cities in 2017 it was another significant statement of support for the city’s track record in recognising and promoting lifelong learning. Cork is regularly invited by UNESCO and by other Learning Cities to speak at International Conferences and has delivered keynote addresses at UNESCO International Conferences on Learning Cities in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
