New Frontiers - Munster Technological University
New Frontiers is an entrepreneurship programme run by Munster Technological University and Enterprise Ireland. It helps new businesses move from business ideas towards an income-generating and investor-ready startup. Participants receive mentoring, training, incubation space, access to R&D facilities, and financial support.
Participants can engage with the programme through three phases:
Phase 1 - Feasibility Stage
Participants receive 30 hours of training outside of normal work hours, allowing them to keep their existing full-time commitments. At the end of this phase, participants decide to pursue their business opportunities.
Phase 2
This Phase takes the Participant from Feasibility to Start-up.
Phase 3
This stage proves some participants who have not secured either funds or a first customer with additional space to achieve these two key outputs.
Impacts
From 2012-2020 there were 292 participants in New Frontiers Phase 1 and 113 participants in New Frontiers Phase 2. An additional 70 businesses participated in New Frontiers Phase 3.

Ignite – University College Cork
UCC has a long history of working collaboratively with local partners, such as the City and County Councils, Cork Chamber of Commerce, Local Enterprise Offices, Cork BIC, Republic of Works etc to develop and grow new businesses, as well as supporting SMEs and MNC research and innovation through collaborative programmes.
IGNITE is a unique initiative that supports recent graduates in the region to start scalable enterprises for positive economic, social, or environmental impact, by harnessing the resources of Cork City Council, Cork County Council, the Local Enterprise Offices of Cork City and County, UCC and business leaders.
Mission:
•
Encourage, promote, and nurture entrepreneurship in recent graduates.
• Provide a programme to select graduates that will deliver entrepreneurs driving scalable, job- creating, commercially successful businesses, in chosen sectors, in a 3-to-5-year period. • Deliver in partnership with chosen industry sectors, entrepreneurs who seek to create businesses in response to future global and national market needs.

Optimise the accessibility to the expertise available within UCC.
