Project Outcomes

• Leverage the strong enterprise and innovation ecosystem of the Cork region to support a growing need for office space and enterprise support in the start-up high-tech/ digital sectors.

Provide over 50 jobs in Shandon – one of the most historic parts of Cork City.

• Create a space for start-up businesses, universities, and large businesses to innovate and develop world-class products and services. • Provide business mentoring, advisory, training and networking services all aimed at supporting business innovation. • Provide assembly rooms, meeting rooms, training facilities and amenities for the local community in Shandon. • Act as a catalyst to regenerate the Shandon area through the redevelopment and sustainable use of the Butter Market.

Contribute to the development of the start-up and innovation ecosystem in Cork.

• The Shandon Exchange will be unique, in one place businesses will be provided with a full range of supports, including grant aid, mentoring, networking and links with universities and industry while engaging meaningfully with the local community.

WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH CENTRES

Cork City is home to world-class research centres which provide cutting-edge research in many different areas. Many of these research centres work collaboratively with the city’s two universities and industry. Several of these research centres are members of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Network which allows them to tap into national knowledge and disseminate learnings.

ENTIRE European Digital Innovation Hub

The ENTIRE European Digital Innovation Hub is a non-profit initiative focusing on organizations active in the digitalisation of the Agriculture, Energy and Transport sectors, advancing the exploration, exploitation, and investment by Irish SMEs and public authorities in the utilisation of intelligent secure IoT sensors, networks, and software. ENTIRE brings together the strongest innovation experts in digital technologies from across the Southern Region of Ireland. The ENTIRE Digital Innovation Hub’s strategic mission is to offer the innovation expertise of Tyndall in IoT Smart Sensors, Walton Institute (SETU) in IoT Networks and HPC, MTU in Cybersecurity & vertical systems integration, UCC in Artificial Intelligence, and Skillnet in SME Digital Skills Onboarding as well as to broker all necessary technical, business, financial, investment and training support services across the value chain. By doing this, the ENTIRE Hub will help companies, in particular SMEs, start-ups, and public authorities to become more competitive by using digital technologies in their business/production processes, products, or services. Headquartered in the Tyndall National Institute, Cork City, ENTIRE’s region spans nine counties, supported by 10 Local Authorities. The Southern Region hosts approx. 100,000 SMEs (employing over 295,000 people) and 386 Multinational Enterprises employing over 75,000 people. Several funding opportunities will be open to SMEs to accommodate business needs relevant to prototype development and training. More details on the various offerings will materialise in 2023.

CAPPA Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (MTU)

The Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (www.cappa.ie) is a leading-edge Photonics research centre based in MTU Cork. The centre has some €6M worth of cu rrent research projects ranging across multiple sectors, from food, pharmaceutical, medical device, environment, lighting and optical design and life sciences. The use of light as a diagnostic tool or sensor can be widely applied in
