Condition Report This condition assessment was prepared as part of a ‘Building Record of Elizabeth Fort’. It is based on a visual inspection of the structure carried out in late 2015. Description of Structure A detailed description of the evolution, form and fabric of the Fort is contained elsewhere in the survey. For the purpose of describing the condition of the Fort a summary of its form follows. Elizabeth Fort is a star Fort with four bastions, one each at the north-west, north-east, south- east and south-west corners. Ramparts linked the bastions at the west, north, east and south sides of the fort; the south rampart has been removed and a lighter curtain wall constructed between the outer corners of the adjoining bastions; an Expansion to the east side of the fort contains the main gate. A redan projects from the centre of the North rampart. An L-shaped terrace of two-storey buildings lies within the fort. The curtain wall of the fort is constructed of random rubble masonry. A number of phases of construction and alterations to the curtain wall have been identified.
