12.4 How We Will Reach This Goal And Objectives – The 9 Actions (Full Action Plan in Appendix 1) Promote Climate Awareness We will promote climate awareness and positive behavioural change in the city through an inclusive leadership group. We will also identify and support community climate-action champions and networks. We will develop and coordinate a movement for change by setting up a dedicated public climate-action platform.
Renewables Taskforce to inform a best- practice approach to:

We will encourage a shift to sustainable and active travel.
Active and Public Transport Infrastructure We will accelerate improvements in active and public transport infrastructure. Walk More We will encourage all stakeholders to walk more often in the city centre and pilot traffic-reduction schemes throughout the city. Promote Circular Economy We will promote the shift to a circular economy for all sectors and support the implementation of the National Waste Management Plan for a Circular Economy 2024–2030. This will include promoting new bioeconomy ventures in the city. Placemaking We will support the City Centre Placemaking Fund. We will encourage revitalisation of the built environment and establishment of green spaces that prioritise biodiverse and socially inclusive green spaces. We will support the implementation of ‘Our Green Region: A Blue Green Infrastructure and Nature-based Solutions Framework for the Southern Region’. This is a significant regional initiative which seeks to address three areas: climate change; protect biodiversity; and support high quality green and blue spaces. Local Food Production and Consumption We will promote local food production and consumption, by supporting the Cork Food Policy Council to develop a robust, sustainable food strategy for the city.
Just Transition Approach We will make sure we adopt a ‘Just
Transition Approach’ to climate neutrality. We will do this by supporting and promoting the inclusive actions of the Cork City Climate Action Plan 2024-2029. We will also mainstream climate positive actions in all City Council service areas. Track Greenhouse Gas Emissions We will develop metrics and apply a mechanism for tracking greenhouse gas emissions.
