Glossary of Terms Age Dependency Ratio: Age dependency ratio is the ratio of dependants--people younger than 15 or older than 64--to the working- age population--those ages 15-64. Age Dependency Ratios are often used to measure the financial pressure on the actively working population of a community. The higher the ratio, the greater the burden is carried by working-age people. Lower ratios indicate more people are working who can support the dependent population. Appropriate Assessment: (AA) an assessment of the potential adverse effects of a plan or project (in combination with other plans or projects) on Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protection Areas. These sites are protected by National and European Law. Arts for All: A group of stakeholders who believe in inclusion, diversity and equality in the arts and would like to support Cork City and region achieve its vision in becoming a “European Centre of Excellence for Inclusive Arts”. Arts for All’s vision for Cork is a city which is open, accessible and intentionally inclusive in the Arts and which celebrates diversity as a cornerstone of creativity. https://www.artsforall.ie/ “Bottom-up” Approach: This emphasises the participation of the local community in development initiatives so that they can select their own goals and the means of achieving them. It also ensures community ownership, commitment and accountability to the development project as it seeks development from below. Bioeconomy: An economy where the basic building blocks for materials, chemicals, and energy are derived from renewable biological resources. It is a new model for industry and the economy that actively uses biotechnology and biomass in the production of goods, services or energy.
Circular Economy: A model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible, thus extending the life cycle of products. City Labs: A consultation event based on a methodology that brings communities and civic society, academics, enterprises and public sector organisations together to:

City of Scale: A city that has the capacity to sustainably scale up or grow to absorb population growth and leverage opportunity where by it can ‘scale up’ to a city equivalent to, for example, a medium sized European city. Climate Change: Includes both the global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases, and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns.
Climate Neutral Economy: An economy with net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
CO2eq: a term that refers to gases other than carbon dioxide that have been converted into the equivalent of carbon dioxide based on their global warming potential (GWP).
