24 Age dependency ratio is a demographic indicator that measures the number 20 of dependents aged zero to 14 and over the age of 65, compared with the total population aged 15 to 64. Dependency ratios are a measure of the age structure of a population and relate the number of individuals that are likely to be economically “dependent” on the support of others. The ratio contrasts the ratio of youths (ages 0-14) and the elderly (ages 65+) to the number of those in the working- age group (ages 15-64). 25 The Southwest region is defined by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and comprises of Cork and Kerry combined (both rural and urban areas). 26 Data is for 2020, the latest available period for this variable. 27 Medians arrange incomes from lowest to highest, then identify the middlemost income where an equal number fall above and below. This eliminates the outsized influence of outliers. Median income figures are usually lower than average income figures. 28 The results of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) provide the basis for the official series of quarterly labour force estimates. This figure on labour force are directly based on the census. Users should be aware that information derived from identical questions in the census and LFS for the same year may show appreciable differences. The main categories affected are the constituents of the question on principal economic status and the employment estimates classified by industry and occupation. 29 The Pobal HP Deprivation Index uses data from Census 2022, analysing ten measures of an area’s levels of disadvantage to create a relative score ie ‘The Relative Index Score’ for each Electoral Division. The indicators used to calculate the relative score are; Population Change, Age Dependency, Third Level Education, Type of Profession, Unemployment Rate, Primary Education only, Persons per room. https://www.pobal.ie/pobal-hp- deprivation-index/
