5.2.2
To explore pilot initiatives encouraging communities of interest, identity, and geography to visually animate ‘new’ spaces to foster belonging, ownership, and connection. This should include meantime use and co-design of public places. Cork City Council will lead on a city- wide assessment of community infrastructure, assets, spaces and needs to inform planning and resource allocation to the sector. individuals to make full use of and enjoy public space across the city for recreation, to further their health, social engagement, and safety. This should include hard urban surfaces, green spaces, and waterways , and incorporating built heritage and its value to contemporary communities. Examine adequacy of disability accessibility infrastructure and signposting in key community centres and in the city centre and work with stakeholders to remedy identified gaps in amenity provision and accessibility. City Council will support and empower communities and Cork City Council will build on the work of the Customer Service Unit to encourage ready access to City Council services and facilities, inclusive of all ages and abilities. This will include ensuring a Plain English approach to language and an organigram of public sector services in the city, to assist service users to navigate according to their needs. This should include children /youth/ family services, social and health services and safety, governance, and economic supports.
