Diversity 21.2% of Cork City’s population was born outside of Ireland compared to 20% nationally. In the city centre almost half (49.5%) of the population was born outside of Ireland. 15% of those aged over 15 years in Cork City have non-Irish citizenship with Poland accounting for the highest number (4,178 people). India accounted for the highest number of non-Irish citizens outside the EU (2,555 people). Indian, Romanian and Brazilian citizens were the groups which increased by the biggest numbers since 2016. The number of people recording dual Irish citizenship was 170,597. This reflects a 63% increase from 2016. 47.3% of Irish citizens living in Cork City hold a third-level qualification compared 45.2% nationally. 60.9% of Cork City residents born outside of Ireland hold a third-level qualification compared to 53.9% nationally.

Irish Travellers Cork City is home to just under 4% of Ireland’s Irish Travellers , with 5.6 members of the Traveller Community per 1,000 population (6.5 average across Ireland). This equals 1,245 Irish Travellers living in Cork City out of a total of 32,949 Travellers nationally.

Health and Disability Eight out of 10 people (81%) in Cork City, believe their general health is good or better than good . This is slightly lower than the 83% for the whole state. There are 52,964 people (24% of the overall population) in Cork City with some form of disability. This is slightly higher than the 22% nationally. Of these, 39% would suggest this is ‘to a greater extent’ which equates to 9% (20,465 people) of the total population of Cork City (compared to 8% nationally).
