Deprivation The latest Pobal Deprivation Index 29 uses some key metrics from the 2022 Census to assess the extent of deprivation across the State. It suggests that on average Cork City is marginally above the national average in terms of deprivation.

Just over half of households (56.3%) own their own home (with or without a mortgage). Almost 4 out of 10 (38%) of the 83,328 households live in rented accommodation , significantly higher than the national average (28%). Nearly a quarter (24%) rent from a private landlord (18% nationally). Social housing represents 14.4% of households.

There are 89 Electoral Districts (EDs) recorded in the Pobal Index for Cork City.

Of these:

13% are considered disadvantaged

5% are considered very disadvantaged

New dwelling completions have been steadily growing in the last census period (Figure 5.3.4), with an increase in the number of apartments delivered. Cork City New Dwelling Completions
