Cork City Local Economic and Community Plan 2024-2029

Cork City’s Local Economic and Community Plan 2024 - 2029

8.1 Introduction A city built on active citizenship and participation helps people have a voice and a say in how their community and city develops. We recognise that not everyone wants to take part and that is their right too. We recognise how important advocacy is for people who are not in a position to fully take part. This is why we work very closely with the representative organisations who can advocate for their needs.

Partnership working is at the core of the LECP. It is vital to achieve an equal and inclusive society and we partner with:

• The many inter-agencies that contribute to inclusion such as the LGBTI+ InterAgency, the Traveller Inter-agency Group, CESCA, etc (see appendix 6 for list of all inter-agencies) • Advocacy groups • Other public service organisations • The general public

8.2 The Objectives of This Goal

Communities That Embrace Everyone We aim to build inclusive, sustainable, and resilient communities that enhance and encourage active citizenship. We will encourage everyone to take part and work to engage those less heard. Build Partnerships Within Cork City, we aim to build on existing partnerships across agencies including: • Community • Voluntary • Academic • Business and enterprise • State • Semi-state agencies within Cork City We will enhance and affirm inter-agency forums. This is essential so that we can represent social inclusion, community, voluntary and environmental interests.

Prioritise Those Excluded We will prioritise the needs of communities experiencing exclusion.

Equality and Human Rights We will show how we are

committed to: • Human rights

• Equality, integration • Anti-discrimination

We will pay particular attention to our responsibilities under the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty. Put in Place National Policies We will try to develop and put into practice national policies, strategies, and indicators that are relevant at local level to inclusion, integration and equality.
