10.1 Introduction Cork City as the economic driver for the region will create a strong, resilient, diverse and innovative economy, and enable an inclusive and ‘just transition*’ to a green economy [*term used to describe the transition to a climate neutral economy while securing the future and livelihoods of the workers and their communities]. Cork City Council will help enhance links between academia and employers and ensure education and training opportunities for all.

10.2 Objectives of This Goal

Support Foreign Direct Investment Continue to work with key city stakeholders to attract and retain Foreign Direct Investment in Cork City. Develop Tourism Develop and expand Cork City's tourism industry to support jobs and economic opportunities. Develop a Skilled Economy Develop the skills base in Cork City to ensure there is an adequate supply of skills available to support economic and enterprise growth. Renovate Renovate derelict buildings as a key tool to assist in enhancing community and economic transformation. Monitor Economic Performance Economic Diversity: Monitor resilience of Cork City’s economy.

Invest in Infrastructure Invest in and develop Cork City’s communications, transport, and enterprise infrastructure to support economic growth. Support Innovation and Enterprise Utilise ‘Smart City’ principles to support Cork City's innovation ecosystem (business environment) to develop new ideas, concepts, products, and processes to contribute to sustainable economic growth. Continue to work with other key enterprise stakeholders to create an enterprise - friendly ecosystem that supports Cork City’s entrepreneurs, small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs), and social enterprises through all stages of development.
