Cork City Local Economic and Community Plan 2024-2029

Cork City’s Local Economic and Community Plan 2024 - 2029

Foster Community of Interest Group We will continue to foster and develop Community of Interest groups to be self-sustaining and resilient. Models of good practice include: • Community Wardens:

• Healthy Ireland: This is a broad framework of actions being undertaken by government departments, public sector organisations, businesses, communities and individuals to improve health and wellbeing and reduce the risks posed to future generations. • The Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programme: This is a pilot aimed at providing increased health and wellbeing services in 19 community areas across Ireland (including in the Northside of Cork City) where health and wellbeing risk factors are particularly concentrated and where particular initiatives will be delivered to help promote and improve the overall health and wellbeing of people in those communities. These initiatives will be delivered through partnership working with a range of partners (HSE, local authorities and community groups) working together to provide dedicated services to build lasting improvements in health and wellbeing.

These are Cork City Council staff who provide support locally in RAPID areas of the city. They work closely with community groups and organisations, residents group and other interest groups to promote local needs and interests. • Health Action Zone Workers: Health Action Zone (HAZ) workers are funded by the HSE and operate in the northside of Cork City to remove barrier to health and provide pathways to improved health outcomes. They work in a community development model and provide a link between the community and the HSE services. They are located in the Cork North Community Work department, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare HSE.
