People & Organisation Development (Information for POD up to March 2021) International Women’s Day

The Directorate organised a staff webinar to mark International Women’s Day on 08 March. The Webinar was addressed by Cllr Desmond, Chair of the Female Caucus; Dr. Carol Linehan, Professor and Head in the School of Applied Psychology, University College Cork and by CE Ann Doherty. The webinar was attended by over 70 staff and sought to raise awareness of the issues of gender in the workplace. Breast Cancer Awareness Webinar As part of P.O.D.’s ongoing commitment to staff wellbe ing, a Breast Cancer Awareness Webinar was held on 3 rd March. Juliette O’Connell of Breast Cancer Ireland shared with our staff her experience of a breast cancer diagnosis and gave an informative presentation on how to recognise the symptoms of breast cancer. The webinar was held on Microsoft Teams and staff were invited to share the event with their partners and family. The Staff Welfare and Wellbeing section has received positive feedback on the webinar from staff who attended. As a result of numerous requests from staff who were unable to attend the webinar, a further webinar will take place in October to coincidence with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Climate Action Awareness Training The development of the Local Authority Climate Action Training Programme, is a culmination of efforts from a range of contributors, managed by the CAROs and supported by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. The programme with its initial series of training courses under six unique pillars, serves to underpin the commitments set out under Action 150 of the Climate Action Plan to strengthen and empower Local Authority climate action leadership and build capacity within the sector to further reinforce the delivery of effective climate action. This training is fully funded by the Department of Communications Climate Action and Environment, run by Climate Ireland and collated by the Training Officer and LANSTG.

The 6 pillars regarding this training, catering for the different cohorts of staff are as follows:

• Championing Leadership – aimed at CE, DOS, SEO, SE, SP and Elected Members • Raising Awareness – aimed at all indoor staff • Building Capacity – aimed at Climate Action Teams • Empowering Change – aimed at Community and Outward facing staff • Delivering Action – aimed at outdoor staff • Actioning Policy – aimed at all staff with specific requirements.

A roll out plan is in place in relation to Raising Awareness Pillar as shown below:
