Building Typology
1.213 The buildings date back from the 19th Century and are constructed using painted rendered masonry. Many of the buildings retain their original elevation features and curtilage, including string course, sliding sash windows, timber painted doors and door cases with fanlights, columns, window architraves, stone steps, stone slates and original gates and railings.
1.214 Many buildings have been refurbished in recent years. Some buildings have also been subdivided into multiple occupancy dwellings. Some buildings have not been maintained in a manner appropriate to their architectural character. While many of these houses have been refurbished to a high level, some have not, and standards of workmanship and detail can be inconsistent. The need to provide car parking in particular has led to car parking, and the loss of original cast and wrought iron gates and walls.
