Volume 3 Specific Built Heritage Objectives

Many of these structures would have originally been thatched and there is a possibility of one structure remaining which is potentially thatched under a corrugated iron roof.

Upgrading/ renovating the structures has meant loss of original windows and doors, cast iron rainwater goods being replaced with plastic and in some instances the replacement of natural slate roofs and the removal of the chimneys which interrupts the plot rhythm. Intensive traffic detracts from the historic character of the street and creates noise and pollution which makes the area unpleasant for residents.

Issues

1.238 The Currently some of the historic character to the street has been lost through inappropriate alterations (alterations to roof, insertion of modern shop fronts etc) or demolition and replacement. A critical number of historic buildings remain, however.
