The city experience

● Audit character of neighbourhoods on island and in vicinity and have clear sense of offer as residential communities (e.g. (e.g. St Luke’s, The Marsh, Victorian Quarter, Shandon, South Parish). Continue to support new communities , make public spaces available for community events ● Embed the 15-minute city concept, the draft City Development Plan, into all actions related to the city centre (including actions cited here) and develop urban design plans to inform future development in city centre ● Develop local community-led public arts programmes to grow identities of areas, working with community and creative groups ● Run a promotional campaign for the City Centre through collaboration with all relevant stakeholders ● Improve the attractiveness of the city to families by adding playgrounds and other child-friendly spaces to the city centre. As part of the Docklands development, consider the feasibility of the provision of age-friendly amenities (skate park, park bowling, etc) ● Audit accessibility for all groups in the city centre at regular intervals. Work with local accessibility advocacy group to assess appropriateness of existing parking bays and review the level of audio street lights and/or loop systems installed and address gap ● Embed Security by Design as a core concept for the city centre, tailoring EU urban agenda rules of thumb for effective implementation to the local context and more visible policing activity at night time to stop anti-social behaviour. Undertake a lighting audit of key streets to provide more security to anti- risk groups

• Cork City centre’s character is a key driver of the city experience; there are opportunities to further grow this identity to increase the city centre’s attractiveness as a place to live in and to visit

• Much of Cork’s vibrancy comes from its people, and communities in the vicinity of the city centre are typically multi- generational • There are opportunities to encourage increased levels of footfall into the city centre from resident in its vicinity, and to make the city centre itself more attractive to live in
