Refurbish building to develop either (a) new creative centre with studios/spaces for small business or (b) modernised office space. • In 2018 planning permission was granted for a 220-bed hotel at the site of the former Revenue Commissioners Building. Proposed hotel formed part of a mixed-use scheme that also includes 8,000 sq.m of office space. • The former revenue building was demolished in 2018. However, construction activity by the private sector appears to have stalled. A new arena to host a range of different activities including concerts, conventions and other large events. • As noted previously, in 2020 full planning permission was granted for a 13,000sq m event centre with capacity for 6,000 persons on the site of former Beamish & Crawford brewery. • Project to receive state funding of €50 million . Reduce traffic impact and improve public realm to reinvigorate MacCurtain Street, encourage a range of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. • The MacCurtain Street Public Transport Improvement Scheme went to public consultation between July-August 2020. Works include shared surface area, wider footpaths, outdoor seating spaces and other public realm improvements for MacCurtain Street and surrounding streets to create a safe and attractive pedestrian environment. • In August 2021 tenders were invited for contractors for the scheme, and work is expected to commence before the end of the year 2021.
