Understand Your Assets
Progress clearly evident
Develop an in-depth understanding of available assets in the City Centre e.g. quality and quantity of retail and leisure space, vacancy, needs of retailers, commercial rates. • CCC has strong record of physical assets and constraints within the city centre e.g. the Vacant and Derelict Sites Registers. • Stakeholder consultation and survey work undertaken as part of this Revitalisation Plan and the forthcoming Joint Retail Strategy will further underpin understanding of the retail and commercial sector. Investigate a variety of local and national funding opportunities for city centre projects, including alternative models such as crowd funding and tax incremental financing. • Cork City has proven successful in leveraging a range of national funding opportunities for improvements and development within the City Centre. In March 2021 €353 million in funding announced under URDF to support development of Cork City Docklands, and €46 million allocated to support the Beamish and Crawford Quarter Infrastructure Public Realm Project. • Event centre at the Beamish and Crawford site is to receive €50 million in state funding. • CCC have proven proactive in providing local funding opportunities to support projects in the city centre. Piloted in 2019 and reinstated in 2020, Cork City Placemaking Fund provided support of up to €10,000 for capital projects that improved the public realm, enhance footfall and supported local economic activity. Projects supported under the fund include a parklet at Douglas Street and the Kingfisher street art at Lavitt’s Quay.
