Parking and Signage Review

Review and optimise use of public and private parking assets within the city centre. • City centre contains a number of designated set-down areas to facilitate drop off and pick up for visitors and shoppers. • In response to Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021 CCC waived parking charges for a limited time at council-owned car parks in order to facilitate safe access to the city centre. • MacCurtain Street Public Transport Improvement Scheme includes provision of set-down spaces and on-street parking in several locations in the city centre. Introduce signature meeting places, open up pocket parks and play areas for use by different age groups in the city. • In 2020 CCC installed parklets at Douglas Street and South Mall. In 2021 CCC seek to install an additional 6 parklets across the city centre. • Pedestrianisation of 17 streets will continue to provide new opportunities for meeting and socialising. • There is still scope to introduce new play areas and activities into the city centre. Collaborate with Waterways Ireland and local water sports clubs to provide new activities and events at the River Lee. • Harbour cruises and boat rentals are available for Cork City Harbour. • Kayak and SUP tours are available for visitors to tour the channels of the River Lee.
