Other Capital Works

New concrete paths and drainage works were completed at Gerry O’Sullivan Park, Churchfield. Remedial repairs were carried out at Mahon Golf Course.

Marina Park Phase 1

Construction commenced on Phase 1 of the Marina Park Project (¤9m). This will see the development of a new City Centre parkland area from Shandon Boat Club stretching eastwards to Páirc Ui Chaoimh. A new 250 unit car park has already been completed and open to the public, catering for the huge footfall experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Planting

Shift away from seasonal planting to more biodiversity friendly floral planting and increased sections of meadow areas across all park areas in the City. Greening of City Centre Outdoor Dining Areas under the Stimulus Package with tree and shrub planters

Cemeteries

New additional plots were provided at St Catherine’s Cemetery. A defective boundary wall was demolished, and a new retaining wall erected at St Joseph’s Cemetery. Operations continued in all thirteen of the City Council cemeteries with contingency measures in place due to COVID-19.

Parks and Playgrounds Maintenance

Daily maintenance inspections of playgrounds, grass maintenance, litter picking and bin emptying across all Parks and walkways.
