Public Transport Asset Renewal Resurfacing and relining was completed on 6km of existing bus and cycle lanes at locations including Gilabbey Street, Douglas Road, Rossa Avenue, Ballincollig, Kinsale Road, Mahon Link Road and Glasheen Road. Parking Bye Laws Parking Bye Laws were adopted for Douglas and Ballincollig in June 2020. A number of initiatives were introduced in response to COVID-19 pedestrianisation of city streets, additional bike parking facilities, installation of Driver Feedback Signs, increase in the number of areas designated as 30km/h zones. Driver Feedback Signs Driver Feedback Signs are considered a road safety measure as they increase driver awareness of their speed and encourage drivers to reduce speed. However, the location of signs needs careful consideration as an overuse of the signs & inappropriate locations can undermine their effectiveness. In 2020 the contract for approximately 50 Driver Feedback signs was awarded. Slow Zones Over the past number of years, Cork City Council have introduced 30

enhanced footpaths were completed by the Roads Operations Division in 2020 at over sixty locations throughout the city, as part of the National Transport Authority’s July Jobs Stimulus Plan, which focused on encouraging Active Travel and improving accessibility and connectivity linking communities to facilities, services and public transport. Roads Resurfacing The Roads Operations Division completed over 120,000 square metres of road resurfacing in 2020 on national, regional, local and estate roads. Highlights included the Northern Ring Road and Wilton Road, as well as the newly pedestrianised Prince’s Street, as part of the Council’s Re-imagining Cork programme. Pedestrianisation A Section 38 was approved by Council to permanently pedestrianise 17 streets after the positive experience of the initial pedestrianisation during the summer of 2020. This will come into effect on the 1st January 2021. Measures are in place to give effect to this pedestrianisation
