Building on previous years, 30 km/h slow zones were introduced at 20 locations throughout Cork City in 2020. 30 km/h slow zones are introduced to reduce the speed limit to 30 km/h and to change driver behaviour where there is a high level of vulnerable road users and their needs are deemed to take precedence over those of motorists in qualifying locations in accordance with the criteria in the Guidelines for the Setting and Management of Speed Limits in Ireland. Intelligent Transport System Section The Intelligent Transport System section manages the Intelligent Transport Network throughout the City which encompasses a network of over 28,042 electrical assets. The network includes 24,677 public lights 600km of power cabling, 459km city centre network for lining and signing, 364 traffic signal installations, 58km of communication and network cabling, 168 electronic messaging signs including VMS, School/Speed warning signs

and RTPI signs. Rising bollards The Scoot UTC system encompassing 141 Streams with numerous detection systems and 51 CCTV monitoring units are also utilised to manage the network. Disruptions to the network are monitored in real time and complaints are processed through the online fault management systems and actioned by assigned crews and contractors to relevant KPI’s. Event/emergency and out of hour response was provided for both Public lightning and ITS Operations. List of Achievements: the adoption of the public lighting framework 2020. The resolution of over 7000 job tickets across the section. The consolidation of assets transferred from the Transition area and alignment of service across the city. The support of the ESB networks Fibre Make Ready project delivering 391 new LED installations reducing annual energy consumption. The refurbishment of 7 traffic signal sites. The roll out of additional 4km of fibre optic connectivity for traffic signal and 10 wireless remote monitoring units.
