[ Cork City Council - Annual Report 2020 ]
Cork Age Friendly City Cork Age Friendly City kept in contact with its members throughout the pandemic with over 6,000 letters mailed to the Age Friendly participants over the duration of 2020. These letters contained the Cork City Council weekly newsletter, other local health and wellbeing information and COVID-19 information leaflets. The Age Friendly Housing Technical Specialist post was filled in 2020 which strengthened the links between Cork City Council and Age Friendly Ireland allowing us to use national best practice guidance on issues such as ‘Rightsizing Policy Template’ and the ‘Age Friendly Housing & Public realm training’. Cork City successfully secured funding from Age Friendly Ireland to purchase 6 tablets to be given to nursing homes in Q1 2021. Cork Age Friendly City in association with Cork Healthy Cities and UCC, at the behest of the Cork City Older Persons Representatives, engaged in a research piece to see how older people wanted to link with services during the pandemic with a view to tailoring our Age Friendly actions accordingly.
Bonfire night As part of the online entertainment for Bonfire night GMC and Stevie G in conjunction with Cork City Council, Music Generation and CETB performed an evening of entertainment which was live streamed from the Kabin Studio. It was a fantastic event with so many local young people performing and engaging in positive activities on Bonfire Night. Bonfire Night was a fantastic example of innovative thinking on providing an alternative to young people on Bonfire night. Giving local young people an opportunity to perform and share their musical talent across the city was fantastic. Community Development Grants Over ¤280,000 has been awarded through the Community Development Grants 2020 across the city. This has been a year like no other, so in order to support as many groups as possible all groups were given an opportunity to resubmit their applications considering the impacts that COVID-19 has had across community organisations. New applications included the funding of a number of outdoor spaces to allow for groups to continue operating under the new normal. Several communities were supported to carry out planting and community clean-ups across the city. Clogheen Kerry Pike Community Association have begun ground works in for their new multisport complex thanks to a grant though the Community Development Funds. Ballyphehane Togher Community Development project have launched their intergeneration walking group promoting positive mental health supported by the Community Development Grants.
