[ Leading Cork to Take Its Place as a World Class City ]
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. John Sheehan, Óisín Towers and Siobhán Clancy’s, Cork City Council Community Arts Co-ordinator at the launch of Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of creativity for children which is organised by Cork City Council in conjunction with Creative Ireland and will see over 22 child friendly virtual events involving 18 cultural venues take place in Cork on Saturday June 13th
Cruinniú na nÓg Cruinniú na nÓg took place on the 13th June as an online programme. With up to 25 events taking place, it was the biggest programme to date. In the Lord Mayor’s Creative Call to children, in conjunction with Arts for All, the children of Cork City were invited to use their broad range of artistic talents to create a work of art that represented their view and experience of COVID-19. An online digital exhibition was launched of all the art submissions received as part of the Cruinniú programme. A webinar was hosted by Cork City Arts Office to share learning from the experience of delivering online initiatives for Cruinniú na nÓg for the benefit of city events to follow in 2020 such as Culture Night. Contributors from A Garden Collective, Cork Midsummer Festival, Music Generation/ GMC Beats and The Glucksman Gallery participated.
Following the announcement of the postponement of Africa Day Cork 2020, the Cork City Africa Day Organising committee said: It is with a heavy heart that we have had to postpone this year’s celebrations. We would like to thank our volunteers, performers, vendors and all who have helped with our past celebrations and we look forward to working with you in the future. Rest assured that we are actively exploring ways to commemorate Africa Day, including a highly interactive virtual experience in order to bring our community together despite the uncertainty of the time.
