During this unprecedented public health crisis, Cork City Council worked proactively with the traders and the managing agent to put in place extra precautions and public health measures to make shopping in the market safe for all our customers and to ensure the market remained open, including:

collect, and delivery. This resulted in significant positive publicity for the Market and the city generally, including for example, an on-location #BackingBusiness special episode of Ireland AM. As the situation evolved throughout 2020, and as public health advice changed, the City Council, traders and managing agent worked together to implement new recommendations e.g. including the wearing of face coverings. Traders also stepped up to the challenge of the pandemic and worked hard to respond to the needs of customers - particularly elderly and vulnerable customers – many have developed a range of click/phone and collect and delivery services. Ensuring the market remained open was important not only from an economic perspective but also from a civic perspective, recognising that the Market is at the heart of the City.
