Town and Villages Scheme
City Council had a successful second submission to the Department of Community and Rural Affairs, following on from the previous year’s similar award to Blarney and Tower, in being awarded further ¤200,000 for Blarney, once again, and Upper Glanmire, for 2021, to undertake community works in public-realm type activities and the enhancement of town centre amenities in their respective areas.
Cork City Council made an application to the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government for funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund for three projects as follows: • Cork City Docklands: Funding to unlock the delivery of the nationally significant regeneration project at the 146 hectares City Docks (North and South). This is for enabling infrastructure, specifically transport and mobility, public realm and drainage and flooding. This will enable substantial investment in a new residential neighbourhood, a new office district, as well as new educational, cultural, tourism and recreational infrastructure facilities over a 20 year period. • City Centre: Regeneration of the Grand Parade Quarter to include the upgrading of Bishop Lucey Park, public realm on the South Main Street and the potential development of a new city library and tourist attraction
Local Enterprise Office
A very busy Local Enterprise Week took place in March 2020 with over five hundred participants. Following that week, Local enterprise Office Cork City quickly pivoted all its services online with highlights including:
• 2227 attendees on training courses
• 535 trading online vouchers approved (a 1,200% increase)
• 665 business continuity vouchers approved
• 207 clients attending one to one business advice clinics
• 14 schools supported as part of its Schools Enterprise Programmes
• Urban Expansion Areas: Enabling infrastructure works and recreational
infrastructure for two key new residential neighbourhoods at Ballincollig (Maglin) and Ballyvolane
Economic Marketing Digital campaign Cork City Council and Local stakeholders undertook a digital marketing campaign focused on different key sectors for the city region including fintech, agri-food, business services and cybersecurity which was an excellent success in driving traffic to the recently completed investment section of the City Council website ‘Grow in Cork’.
