CE Report on the Draft Plan Consultation Volume 2

Chief Executive’s Report on Draft Plan Consultation

Volume 2 – Summary of Submissions Received

Cork City Submission No.:

Person:

Organisation:

325

Cork Local Sports Partnership

Summary of Submission and Observation:

The submission states that given recent research on the value of sport and physical activity to the people of Cork we would like to highlight the following points for consideration in relation to this plan:

1. Sport does not feature as a key heading in the plan – Arts/Culture/Recreation is reflected, Objectives 6.20 outlines active recreation. Request that Sport and Recreation should be considered under a combined heading. We kindly suggest this could also be considered under the heading Sport. 2. The plan at this stage does not refence Sport in a co-ordinated way e.g., the value/benefit of sport events/employment to the city. Sport provides promotional value to the City of Cork with athletes and teams performing, winning, and hosting major sporting events and competitions.

Summary of Submission and Observation:

• A more ambitious target for mode share of between 13% and 20% by 2028 is achievable, based on the current growth trajectory based on Cork Cycling Campaign figures. • A clear roadmap needs to be provided for what routes will be delivered over the lifetime of the City Development Plan. The focus should be on promoting active travel rather than infrastructure for motor vehicles.
