Summary of Submission and Observation:
• Requests a vibrant city that supports all its people through sustainable public transport and accessible streets in our communities. • An accessibility audit should be carried out to determine how accessible our city and its suburbs are. • Maryborough Hill area should be a formal area within Cork City, currently it is deemed part of Douglas. • The wording regarding off-licences in the current development plan should be retained. • The wording regarding tackling the vacancy issues on the main street in Douglas should be retained. There has been enough retail building in Douglas. There are units that could be converted to apartments and generate footfall. • Additional park-and-rides at different entry points to the city should be established. • Other issues referred to include bus transport, public bike scheme and e-scooters. Summary of Submission and Observation:
This submission deals with many elements of the Draft Plan and contains many recommendations, including:
Housing The current housing crisis must be top of the list of priorities for Cork City Council. Issues raised include vacant homes, derelict sites, housing on public lands, sustainable communities and regeneration. Roads Concerns expressed with regard to the safety of roads in Cork. Issues raised include traffic calming, road safety surveys and the North Ring Road. Sustainable Transport, Parks and Sports There is a need for more accessibility to sustainable transport across the North side of the City. Issues raised include cycling infrastructure and safety, the needs for regional parks in Knocknaheeny and Glanmire and an audit of all Cork parks. Transport, Infrastructure and Communities Many issues are raised, generally in relation to public transport improvements, healthcare and education facilities, Nash’s Boreen and a Horse Project. Working and Learning in Cork Issues raised include the rejuvenation of Patrick Street and other city centre areas, employment initiatives and economic development. Disability Issues raised include ensuring an accessible built environment for people with a range of abilities and accessibility audits.
