CE Report on the Draft Plan Consultation Volume 2

Chief Executive’s Report on Draft Plan Consultation

Volume 2 – Summary of Submissions Received

Concerns over the absence of any significant zoning to assist in the improvement of local roads infrastructure in Tower. The roads from Blarney through to Tower remain dangerous. Path widening to allow proper lighting, footpath and protected cycle lanes are required. Mayfield Supports the submission from Saint Joseph’s Community Association and Mayfield East Community Associations (no. 267) and their calls for the area to be a regeneration zone, and to develop their site for provision of community services and facilities. The area should be included in any future light rail development as well as the reopening of the former Tivoli terminal. Blackpool Supports categorising Blackpool as an area of regeneration. Amenities, open space and infrastructure are required. Blackpool needs to be more accessible by foot. The public library should be relocated to assist this. Concerns over the proposal to culvert part of the River Bride.

Derelict Sites Cork City Council must lead the way in tackling dereliction.

City Flood Defence Support for the submission from ‘Save Cork City’ (no. 128). Cork needs a Tidal Barrier.

Mike O’Floinn

Summary of Submission and Observation:

• Submission asserts that in the context of creating a city of neighbourhoods and living communities and in the spirit of enhancing our built and natural heritage the city council needs to regenerate the Mardyke walk. • If the city council wants to adhere to one of the key tenets of the Freiburg future cities principles then consideration should be given to deprioritising the use of space on this walkway for cars. • The built structures need oversight and some rigour in terms of architectural homogeneity
