Summary of Submission and Observation:
This submission pulls together four observations which relate to sustainable transport and the public realm.
1. Seeks a commitment to carry out an audit of existing cycling infrastructure as per section 9.14 and 9.20, highlighting clashes between paths and cycle lanes contrary to the National Cycle Manual, no segregation in areas with high vehicular speeds. Proposes an Urban Greenway be included in future plans for the city, based on Cycle Network Plan 2017 to link up all existing routes with planned cycle infrastructure at Tramore Valley and Kinsale Road. Seeks plans for further investment of northside infrastructure from Shandon through to Blackpool, St. Luke, the Glen etc. 2. Seeks wording for car free days be included under objective 4.4, using promotional events under CMATS to promote sustainable transport and should be identified in table 9.1 as an opportunity to promote walking and cycling. 3. Seeks commitment to pedestrianise Patrick Street in accordance with the Cork LUTS 1978 plan. Uses examples of similar successes in European cities. • Seeks commitment to carry out an audit of existing cycle infrastructure • Review of cycle lanes clashing with pedestrian footpaths • Include plans for Urban Greenway based on Cycle Network Plan 2017 • Include ‘car free’ days under objective 4.4 and table 9.1 • Pedestrianise Patrick Street.
