• Greater emphasis is required in the Plan for Arts and Culture, and specifically to protecting and providing space for artists and cultural practitioners to work in. • Strengthen objectives by going beyond “promote and celebrate” Cork City as a centre for excellence for arts, culture and the creative indiustries *.11b and 8.13). Objectives need to address the provision of workspace, resources and platforms for creative practitioners; • 8.11 d – needs to cite the new Cork City Arts Strategy and not just “an outdated” Creative Cork Strategy 2018 - 2022. • 8.16d – strengthen to state that empty premises will be provided to for artists studios ad outdoor spaces; • 8.11 c and 8.14 – include timeline for the new Arts Strategy.

Summary of Submission and Observation:

• Cork City’s unique character should be conserved and enhanced for the economic and social benefit of the city and is key to revitalising Cork by maintaining its identity, especially in relation to the historic city’s historic public realm. • An architectural policy is required for Cork City, which should include a policy to protect Cork’s unique heritage with development that is compatible with good design in relation to the buildings and spaces developed. • An objective to develop an architectural policy for Cork City is required. • Integrate the ambitions of heritage protection with links to economic benefit into main policy objectives; • A document was submitted in support of the submission that sets out a range of principles for designing and investing in Cork’s public realm, with a particular emphasis on understanding Cork’s unique heritage in public space design. An appropriate response in the Plan should be explored. This might include: o An objective that clearly sets out the considerations for designing the public realm taking full account of the historic context to Cork’s traditions and the specific spaces, as well as a range of other design criteria; o An objective to develop a public realm design code for the historic city;
