Cork Climate Action
Summary of Submission and Observation:
• In order to encourage walking and cycling trips it is essential that the City is retrofitted with permeability / connectivity to provide routes to enable short distance trips. • This will require acquisition, public rights of way or semi-public rights of way (e.g. routes over private land that are time-controlled). • This will make a significant contribution towards health, climate change, air quality, equality and the Fifteen Minute City. • There are a great many people that don’t want to use a car / don’t have access to a car and are currently not given equality of access to those with cars. • This work will require significant resource. • A new objective is required to require permeability in new development and the retrofitting of permeability into existing areas of the City; • This should be x- ref’d appropriately.

Saint Fin Barre’s Quarter Development Group
Summary of Submission and Observation:
• The comprehensive nature of the DCCiDP is welcomed and also the extensive consultation. • A number of items are recommended for inclusion in the Plan relating to the development of the Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral area of Cork City. • Consider designating the S aint Fin Barre’s Cathedral area as a Neighbourhood; • Develop a new square to the front of Elizabeth Fort on Barrack Street • Extend the high quality public realm proposed in the Grand Parade / Brewery Quarter to the Saint Fin Barre’s Quarter; • Include an objective to develop SFC as “The Inclusive Cathedral” in the Plan; • Include an objective to develop the Saint Fin Barre’s Festival in 2022 to celebrate Cork’s patron saint and the amazing history of the city and its 1500 years success. • St Fin Barre's Quarter includes physical manifestations of all seven eras of Cork's development - monastic, Viking, Norman, Elizabethan, preindustrial, industrial and modern. There is an opportunity to create a virtual walking tour that enables visitors to experience all seven phases of history in a meaningful way. • Develop the St Fin Barre's Cathedral Peregrine Falcon project in partnership with UCC, National Parks and Wildlife Service and The Hawk and Owl Trust Norfolk to enable a better understanding of behavioural and breeding habits. Included in the project should be a sustainable tourism and education outreach plan. • Enhance green and blue infrastructure with a greenway from UCC to MTU Crawford along the mill race from MTU Crawford to O'Donovan Rossa Road creating a safer route for pedestrian and cyclists, avoiding College Road and Western Road. This route would be particularly useful for UCC/MTU students. This proposal is supported in principle by UCC, MTU, the Students Union and Cork Chamber (and the Saint Fin Ba rre’s Quarter). • Create a comprehensive photographic record of St Fin Barre's Cathedral and other built heritage in St Fin Barre's Quarter.
