[OBJECTIVE 7.20] MARITIME ECONOMY
Port of Cork Company and Cork City Council are currently engaged in a process relating to the phased transfer of Cork City Quays to Cork City Council as part of the City Docks Regeneration programme. The Port of Cork is currently exploring upgrading access to the Tivoli site, and a consultation process with all relevant stakeholders is underway. The City Development Plan includes a strategic plan for the overall development of Tivoli, which is also supported by the National Planning Framework and the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy. [OBJECTIVE 7.22] DIVERSIFICATION OF RURAL ECONOMY While Cork City is largely urban it does support a rural hinterland and plays a crucial role in the broader economic development of County Cork which includes significant rural areas. In relation to the City’s hinterland, the City Development Plan supports the rural economy through a range of measures that include support for local businesses (with the Local Enterprise Office) through grants, training and advice, through the provision of infrastructure projects, through promoting tourism via local attractions, festivals and cultural events, through strong support for agricultural development, and through community development projects including sports facilities. This objective will continue to be secured through the development management planning process and through the City Council’s broader scope of work.
