The following projects relate to the Cork City area and have either been completed, have commenced or have been proposed in the period since August 2022:

Mains Rehabilitation Projects

• Albert Street, Albert Road, Victoria Road – completed October 2022 • Edward Walsh Road, Togher – November 2023 to February 2024 • Wansworth Quay, Hanover Street, South Main Street – December 2022 to June 2023 • Pophams Road, Farranree – ongoing • Sydney Park, Wellington Road – proposed 2024 Strategic Projects • Eastern Strategic Link (ESL) extension from Pine Street to Shanakiel Reservoir via Popes Quay, North Mall, Sundays Well – April 2021 to March 2023 • New Lee Road water Treatment Plant – commissioned in August 2022 • New Western Link Trunk Main, Poulavone (Ballincollig) to Lee Road Water Works – April 2021 to March 2023 • New Rising Mains, Pump Stations and Distribution Manifold, Shanakiel, Harbour View Road – April 2021 to March 2023 Others • Reconstruction of roof of high-level reservoir, Churchfield and re-seal the reservoir from within – November 2022 to November 2023

[OBJECTIVE 9.9] FLOOD PROTECTION SCHEMES

During the period August 2022 to April 2024, there have been five major flood relief defence projects that have either been completed, commenced or agreed to be undertaken in Cork City. The schemes range in cost and scale, and vary in respect of the type of works undertaken or included as part of the overall proposal, with some schemes including public realm improvements. The five major flood relief defence projects are detailed below. Douglas Flood Relief Scheme (including Togher Culvert) (DFRS) This scheme commenced in 2019 and was completed in 2021, while the Togher main works contract commenced in June 2021 and was completed in December 2022. The scheme will benefit the townlands of Ardarrig, Ballybrack, Castletreasure, Douglas and Togher. Works in Douglas included the construction of new flood defence walls (reinforced concrete and precast elements), reconstruction of existing bridges, new reinforced concrete culverts, drainage and utility diversions, road regrading, hard and soft landscaping. Works in Togher included the diversion of a major 600mm diameter watermain, foul sewers, minor watermains, various telecoms and gas networks, as well as modifying the existing road drainage. The Togher works included the construction of a new 675m-long culvert, a new trash screen, overflow channel, retaining wall at the outlet and public realm enhancements along and on approach to Togher Road.
