Related to the Cork City Council Energy Policy, ISO50001 (Energy Management System) recertification was completed in Q2, 2023. The list below provides an overview of the total number of social housing units within the city that had works undertaken to improve energy efficiency. • In 2022, 13 social housing properties were brought up to the B2 cost optimal energy rating. Five of these properties had heat pumps fitted. • In 2023, 53 social housing properties were brought up to the B2 cost optimal rating, 38 of these properties had heat pumps fitted. • In 2024 to date, 33 social housing properties have been brought up to the B2 cost optimal energy rating. 22 of these properties have had heat pumps fitted.

Cork City Council has also completed, or agreed to undertake, the following:

• Cork City Council is exploring energy saving and CO2 reduction measures in 7 Cork City Council owned buildings in order to maximise energy efficiency and CO2 emission reductions. • The Climate Team in Cork City Council officially launched the SEAI Accelerator program in Q2, 2024 which aims to improve energy awareness and behaviours throughout Cork City Council and to further help identify energy efficient project opportunities. • Cork City Council have signed up t o further reduce our energy consumption over the same period in 2023 as part of an initiative hosted by the SEAI. • There are ongoing i mprovements to public lighting with continued works completed in replacing existing public lighting bulbs with more efficient LEDs. • A 15% reduction of building energy consumption was achieved over the Christmas period in 2022 as a means of reducing stress on the grid supply during a period of high risk to the electricity grid network. • Cork City Council is compiling a building register for all Cork City Council buildings and will be completed by Q3, 2024. The aim of the register is to identify existing building performance, actions and projects, and apply a priority element to each.

Gas Networks Ireland and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) have undertaken over the last 2-year period, or plan to undertake, the following projects in Cork City:

Distribution mains alterations

These projects are completed to relocate an existing main to a new location, e.g. to enable the construction of a new development or new road. 12 mains alteration projects have been completed since the start of 2022. These projects are completed to ensure that the gas network can provide acceptable gas pressures to customers. Since 2022, there has been 2.7 km of distribution main reinforced in the Cork City area.

Distribution pressure reduction stations are located across the distribution network. The condition of these stations is monitored and stations are upgraded as required. Since 2022, 6 stations in the Cork City area have been upgraded.

New gas connections were provided to 320 new domestic and commercial customers.

Re-laid connections

217 existing services to domestic and commercial customers were re-laid or replaced.
