[ Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028, Section 15(2) Two-Year Progress Report ]
DOUGLAS
[OBJECTIVE 10.82] DOUGLAS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT, PLACEMAKING AND PUBLIC REALM The Douglas area forms an integral and vibrant part of Cork City and has experienced significant growth and investment in recent years. Douglas still retains its village character and compact urban fabric but there are also a number of long- standing challenges including traffic congestion, restricted public open space accessibility and public realm that need to be addressed. It is intended to produce a Framework Plan that focuses on local environmental improvement factors and opportunity sites including Barry’s Field (Neighbourhood Development Site 2, see Objective 10.100 below in this report) and those with brownfield regeneration potential. The Framework Plan will have regard to BusConnects proposals, currently at public consultation stage and awaiting the preferred route option. Baseline work has commenced and it is anticipated that the Framework Plan will commence in Q1, 2025. [OBJECTIVE 10.85] CASTLETREASURE EXPANSION AREA The Castletreasure Expansion Area comprises a bundle of lands zoned for new residential development. The majority of the lands have permission granted or an application pending, including ABP-304367 for 472 units at the northern periphery of the lands (currently under construction) and most recently large- scale residential development (LRD) reference 24/42632 for 580 units which is at the final stage of the LRD planning application process. The future framework plan for Douglas will take all permitted and remaining undeveloped lands into account in terms of a focus on opportunity and growth sites within the project area.
