Recognition for the Cork City Development Plan 2022 & SDGs Cork City Council aims to be a leader in sustainable development. It is the only local authority in Ireland with a dedicated Climate Action Committee of Council where elected members set ambitious policies and objectives for the city. This is implemented by the Climate Action Team which is chaired by the Chief Executive. Cork City Council has been accepted as one of the EU Mission – 100 Carbon Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 and was the first “Atlantic-Arctic city” to sign the EU Mission Ocean Charter "Restore our Ocean and Waters". The Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028 was produced and adopted in this environment of sustainable development innovation and best practice. The Plan has since been recognised for its innovative approach to sustainable development and the SDGs. ‘Ireland’s Second National Implementation Plan for the Sustainable Development Goals 2022-2024’ singles out the Cork City Development Plan 2022 as a best practice case study in leading the way to the incorporation of the SDGs into city or county development plans.
