[ Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028, Section 15(2) Two-Year Progress Report ]
SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Targets under this goal relevant to the City Development Plan: Target 5.1 End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere. Target 5.c Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels. Objectives in chapter 3 seek Cork to be an inclusive city meeting the needs of all, and supports the goals, objectives and actions of the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP). The City Development Plan recognises that the key to creating a safe city is to create a strong and integrated community that feels as if the city is home, regardless of age, ability, social background, sexual orientation and identity, gender and ethnic background, and seeks safe urban environments through safety by design, well-integrated places and the principle of community-based placemaking in designing and renewing our public spaces. A primary principle underpinning the City Development Plan is the 15-minute city approach. While the origins of this approach lie in addressing climate change, it enshrines the principles of equality and equity by recognising that every resident’s 15-minute city differs depending on a range of factors, and in seeking equitable access to transport, facilities, amenities, healthcare and education in Cork City’s neighbourhoods.
SDG 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
Targets under this goal relevant to the City Development Plan: Target 6.3
By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally. Target 6.5 By 2030, implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate. Target 6.6 By 2020, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes.
The City Development Plan supports Uisce Éireann in the management of water resources to ensure efficient and sustainable use and development of water resources and water services infrastructure (Objective 9.1). The Plan under Objective 9.7 supports the delivery of Ireland’s River
