Cork City’s selection in 2022 as one of the EU Climate Neutral and Smart Mission Cities, all of which are aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030 (see SDG 15 & 17 for further detail) provides further incentive for successfully developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure. In relation to Target 9.c, chapter 9 of the City Development Plan (Objectives 9.16 & 9.17) supports the digital strategy for the City and the delivery of high-speed, high-capacity digital infrastructure, and the rollout of the National Broadband Plan as set out under NPF NPO 24. Target 9.4 is linked to target 12.5 (see SDG 12 below) and target 7.3 (see SDG 7 above).

SDG 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries

Targets under this goal relevant to the City Development Plan:

Target 10.2 By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.

This goal is contextualised in the City Development Plan in objectives seeking the provision of amenities, services and community and cultural uses to enable an inclusive and diverse city for all, including those objectives relating to the creation of an inclusive city (Objective 3.2), accessible and equitable neighbourhoods (Objective 2.10), supporting economic growth and diversity (Objective 7.2), inclusive community development (Objectives 7.4), supporting cultural diversity and addressing social inclusion (Objectives 3.12, 3.14-3.35). The plan-making process itself contributed towards this goal and target through its transparent and inclusive participatory consultation and representative decision-making (see SDG 16). SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable Targets under this goal relevant to the City Development Plan: Target 11.1 By 2030, ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums. Target 11.2 By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons. T arget 11.3 By 2030, enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries.
