Review of Core Strategy Activation Measures

In implementing the City Development Plan, Cork City Council operates an Active Land Management approach to enable and enhance the use of land and buildings in the city. The graphic below summarises some of the areas of current activity used to optimise potential for housing delivery in suitably designated locations within the city.

Cork City Council has several key roles in land activation, including roles and responsibilities under the Derelict Sites Act 1990, the Urban Regeneration and Housing Act (2015) and the impending Residential Zoned Land Tax (2024). The Council also plays a role in influencing Government to update the legislative, guidance, fiscal and financial framework to the benefit of housing delivery. This includes recent URDF and Croí Cónaithe (Towns) funding allocations, Croí Cónaithe (Cities) and Project Tosaigh.
