[OBJECTIVE 2.7] REGIONAL INVESTMENT
Cork City Council has been successful in securing involvement in 11 new EU-supported initiatives entailing multiannual collaboration with European partners (including cities) on issues and challenges of shared concern whose targeted outcomes will inform and contribute to the city’s ongoing development:
•
Zero Carbon Infrastructure planning for electric vehicle charging infrastructure and sustainable urban logistics. Frugal Cities promoting the low-tech ‘resource sufficiency’ model in housing, transport, urban services, production and energy generation. EMBRACER adapting the local mobility system by integrating public transport with informal modes to enhance urban connectivity. TIPS4PED a positive energy district approach to the North Docklands via a digital twin model to identify the most effective solutions to optimize energy performance and inform robust ‘Smart City’ decision-making on planning future actions, extending further into sustainable mobility. GreenIn Cities community-led functional renaturing and green space activation as climate assets as part of the Cork North-West Quarter Regeneration programme.
Go Green Next interrelating ecosystem and human health and urban living in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss by prioritising socio-economic issues in relation to green space access. SEFIT addressing inclusion and equity barriers to the green and digital transitions via social innovation. Intelligent Cities Challenge 2.0 promoting, facilitating and unlocking barriers to retrofitting in older city centre office and retail and hospitality premises. GreenDense urban acupuncture of green infrastructure, tackling challenges of limited space and contested interests, to renature inner city hard surfaces for enhanced climate resilience, biodiversity, health and placemaking purposes. Upcycling Trust community land trust model of affordable housing, circular materials construction techniques. FEAST developing a local sustainable food system strategy.
