OBJECTIVE 2.26 VACANT SITE LEVY
Cork City Council has eight sites on the Vacant Site Register and is applying an annual levy charge on the sites. The Residential Zoned Land Tax will replace the Vacant Site Levy.
OBJECTIVE 2.27 DERELICTS SITE REGISTER
Cork City Council is responsible for dealing with derelict sites in the city. The Derelict Sites Unit investigates all reports of dereliction and takes enforcement action in accordance with the Derelict Sites Act 1990 in an effort to have the dereliction abated. By the end of 2023, the Derelict Sites Unit was investigating more than 700 properties across the city, including 167 sites on the Derelict Sites Register, which is a 45% increase on 2022. In addition, the Council operates a parallel process which seeks to provide an early warning system for property owners with buildings and sites which have been identified as being at risk of dereliction.
