City Centre Movement Strategy

Active Travel Permeability

The Strategic Vision as presented in the Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028 aims to deliver a compact sustainable city where placemaking, communities and a good quality of life are its focus. This Strategic Vision will deliver a world class city with strong local and regional growth, where its people will embrace diversity and inclusiveness to ensure its resilient and healthy growth. The key principles relevant to accessibility and mobility include: • Compact growth: integrate land-use and transport planning to achieve a compact city delivering new homes within the existing built-up footprint of the city at higher population densities focused on key active and sustainable transport infrastructure. • A city of neighbourhoods and communities: develop a sustainable, liveable city of neighbourhoods and communities based on the 15-minute city concept, ensuring that placemaking, accessibility and safety is at the heart of all development. • Sustainable and active travel: implement the transport infrastructural measures as presented in the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Study to deliver on the shift toward walking, cycling and public transport required to deliver on the Strategic Vision for the city.
