CCM 2026 Programme a5 Final May

The Lord Mayors Prize Winner Philip Hayes

Philip is a father to twin girls, Chloe and Sophia, both with Down syndrome, and together with his wife Danielle and their son Corey, they are part of a family deeply connected to the Down Syndrome Centre Cork. Philip is taking on the Cork City Marathon as part of a group raising funds for the Down Syndrome Centre Cork — a parent-led charity supporting close to 200 families across Cork and Munster. What makes Philip truly deserving of this recognition is not just his participation in the marathon, but the strength, resilience and dedication he shows every single day as a parent and an advocate for his children and others.

in itself, but doing so while raising twin girls with additional needs speaks to an extraordinary level of commitment and perseverance. Alongside Danielle, and as a role model to Corey, Philip shows what it means to lead with positivity, love and determination. Through taking on this challenge, Philip is helping to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and give back to a community that supports so many families like his own. Chloe and Sophia are, in every sense, one in a million — and so too is the strength, love and support that surrounds them. Philip embodies everything this award stands for: resilience, dedication, and a meaningful contribution to the Cork community.

Balancing family life, work and marathon training is a challenge
