Community Housing Awards under the “Housing for Older People, Large Project” Category and most recently in November 2019 won a Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Award in the Local Authority Innovation Category. Similar schemes are now under construction at Springville House, Blackrock Road, (35 homes), Sunview, South Douglas Road (25 homes) and Hawkes Road (24 rightsizing homes). Further turnkey developments have been delivered recently at Ard na Ri Banduff (20 new homes), and under Part V at Ballinglanna (16 homes) and Lehenaghmore Togher (50 homes).

consisting of 25 apartments located at Millerd Street, which are now occupied and have provided much needed one- and two- bedroom homes in Cork City Centre. A further scheme of 44 apartments, duplex, and semi-detached homes at Coolroe, Ballincollig is finalised, and the units have been occupied by tenants from Cork City Council’s housing list in the last couple of months. Respond is also progressing phased delivery of a total of 80 units at Redforge Road, Blackpool, Cork with Phase 1 of the project having delivered 18 homes to date. Construction has also commenced on two further Respond housing schemes at Evergreen Road (28 homes) and Boreenmanna Road (former Glenanaar bar site) (27 homes), both projects scheduled to complete in late-2022. Another project with Respond is currently under construction at Sarsfield Road, Wilton who will deliver 65 homes in early 2022. In collaboration with Focus Housing Association, Cork City Council has delivered dozens of individual units for both general need and those at risk of homelessness, including the Housing First initiative. The previously mentioned project at Springville House is progressing under CALF funding approval through Tuath Housing, to deliver 35 homes in 2022. Cluid Housing has progressed a CALF-funded scheme at Kerry Pike, with a total of 22 three- and four-bedroom houses being delivered. 12 homes were recently placed on the Choice Based Letting site for applicants with the remaining 10 homes completing currently. Cluid’s site at Green Lane, Blackpool has also commenced construction with enabling works now completed and the main housing contract has commenced.

Affordable Housing:

Cork City Council is advancing a programme of delivery of affordable housing which can be summarised as follows: Boherboy Road - Serviced Sites Funding has been obtained from the DHLGH for the provision of affordable housing on this site which is proposed to deliver a total of 153 homes, comprising 116 affordable homes and 37 apartments for social housing. The procurement process for detailed design and construction of the scheme has been completed and construction commenced in late 2019. Phase 1A, comprising of 17 units will be substantially complete before the end of 2021, with remaining units delivered thereafter on a phased basis. Middle Glanmire Road – a mixed tenure development of 54 homes has commenced construction in April 2021, which will deliver 27 affordable homes and 27 social homes (which will be owned and managed by Tuath Housing). Hawkes Road, Bishopstown – A further mixed tenure development of 64 homes has commenced construction, which will deliver a total of 35 homes for affordable housing, and 29 homes for social housing (of which 24 homes will be reserved for Rightsizing). Phase 1D East – Knocknaheeny: O Cualann Housing Co- operative has obtained planning permission for 17 affordable homes. Enabling utility diversion works are due to commence in Q1 2022. Churchfield East – A further scheme of 21 affordable homes at Churchfield East is to be developed with a tender for a design/build solution to progress in the coming months. Further sites and locations are currently under assessment for further affordable housing provision.

Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS):

Under the Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS), the construction of 33 units at Edel House, Grattan Street by Good Shepherd Cork received DHPLG approval. Works commenced in Quarter 1 of 2019 and the construction of the new extension is now complete. Work has also completed on site for 8 units at Joachim and Anne’s with Cork Simon, providing 8 homes for the accommodation of homeless persons. Three separate CAS units have also completed with Circle Housing Association with further homes to deliver before year end.

Long Term Leasing:

31 units have been delivered to date under the new delivery mechanism to meet housing need and targets laid out under Rebuilding Ireland, with further delivery scheduled before year end and into 2022. Repair and Lease: 2 no. homes have been returned to use under the Repair and Lease Scheme for vacant properties in 2020. The Council’s pilot project with Peter McVerry Trust is expected to deliver further homes in 2021.

Capital Advance Leasing Facility (CALF):

Tuath Housing Association has completed at 52-home scheme at the Meadows, Knocknacullen with all units occupied. Respond CLG recently completed a project
