Strategic & Economic Development Cork City Heritage Day

On Saturday August 15th, Cork Heritage Open Day took place virtually on ww.corkheritageopenday.ie The website featured over 40 subtitled videos of Cork, guided tours of historic buildings, walking tours, archival footage and images of times gone by in Cork. The event was very popular, with nearly 3,000 visits to the site during heritage week and 1,338 people visiting the site on August 15 th (Cork Heritage Open Day). Facebook posts were seen by 55,960 people, Tweets were seen 120,570 times and Instagram posts were seen by 10,479 people. There was also extensive local & national coverage online; on radio and in the print media. Development Plan August was a busy month for the review of the Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028: the public consultation period for the Pre-Plan Consultation Issues Paper ran for 8 weeks up until 21 st August attracting 393 submissions. This is a significant increase on the 106 submissions received in response to the 2015-2021 City Development Plan issues paper. An online survey attracted 1,334 participants, 90% of whom rated Cork as a good to excellent place to live. In addition, a series of one-to-one consultation meetings took place on the Issues Paper and a Young People’s Photograph Competition ran in parallel to the Issues Paper consultation. Winners of this competition will be announced in September.

Current Tenders

Joint Retail Study and Strategy for Metropolitan Cork. The “Request for Tenders” (RFT) to prepare a “Joint Retail Study and Strategy for Metropolitan Cork” was advertised on “E - tenders” on 20 th August. The closing date for receipt of submissions is the 21 st September. The retail study will provide the evidence base for a joint retail strategy for the Cork Metropolitan Area on behalf of Cork City Council and Cork County Council for incorporation into the respective development plans up to the year 2028 and the period covered by the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy/Metropolitan Area Strategic Plan and associated population targets up to 2031.

SEA/AA/SFRA Study for the City Development Plan is ongoing.

The Cork City Strategic Employment Locations Study. Preparatory work is ongoing for this tender. This will be going out to tender over the next couple of weeks.
