Strategic & Economic Development Planning Policy

Conservation Unit Conservation received the following grant applications from owners of historic structures: 20 applications were received for Built heritage Investment Scheme and 4 for The Historic Structures Fund These schemes are allocated with the specific aim of encouraging best practice stewardship of our built heritage and to assist historic building owners to carry out conservation works to a high standard thereby protecting Corks architectural heritage for the future. The Historic Structures Fund this year has a new pilot scheme for vernacular structures which is useful especially since the Citys stock of vernacular buildings has risen with the expansion of the city boundary. These are often under-celebrated building stock and it now gives us extra leverage in their protection. These will be processed by Conservation and co- ordinated with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
