Cork City Development Plan

Work is well underway for the start of the 2-year process of replacing the current City Development Plan 2022-2028. The initial public consultation stage is called the ‘Issues Paper’ stage which commences on 14 April 2020 and lasts up until 9 June 2020. Everyone is welcome to feed into this stage and this is a crucial stage for it will help determine what factors go into the Draft Development Plan. With the goal of consolidating the Issues Paper and making it open/accessible to a wider audience, we have placed the majority of the development plan process information in a separate parallel document called th e ‘Development Plan Process Overview’ with an executive summary placed in the start of the Issues Paper. The overview document explains the process and allows people to clearly see the current stage of the process and when people can make submissions. Essentially the 2 key stages for submissions are Issues Paper and Draft Development Plan stages. We will keep people posted on the council website and via social media. There will be a series of public workshops throughout the city which will also be promoted via the website and social media. Any questions, please contact the Planning Policy team. Economic Development __________________________________________________________________________________________________ The DHPLG launched the second call for the € 2 bn Urban Regeneration & Development Fund (URDF) with a closing date of 31 st March. City Council will be making a significant submission for funding under this call with key projects including infrastructure for Docklands and other key projects to support the growth targets of the city as set out in the NPF and recently approved Southern Regional Economic and Spatial Strategy and Municipal Area Strategic Plan for the City region.

A number of initiatives which are supported by the Economic Development Fund took place or were launched:

• The 3 rd Beyond IoT (BIOT) conference hosted by Nimbus in CIT focused on global technology trends and thinking in the AI and smart cities technologies. Another initiative, also supported through the twinning relationship with Shanghai, came to fruition as part of this conference where The Innocare Group innovation hub from Shanghai launched a competition to host Cork company in Shanghai for the first time and who will, through an MoU with CIT, also host the BIoT conference in Shanghai in October this year. They also propose to set up a manufacturing facility in Cork and propose to facilitate exchange of companies and R&D project’s between Shanghai and Cork.
