The Witch’s Yew Tree in Blarney Castle has won Irish Tree of the Year will now go forward as Irelands representative in the European Tree of The Year With an impressive selection of trees from all over Europe, we are asking the public to vote for our Irish entrant. Voting will begin this Saturday the 1st of February and will conclude at the end

Climate Unit Fifth meeting of the Climate Action Committee took place, the Operations Directorate gave a presentation to members progress on air quality monitoring and enforcement initiatives. Micheál Lyons of the Climate Action Unit gave a presentation to Council staff on the progress of the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2019 – 24 as part of the Continuing professional Development (CPD) in-house initiative. RSES Report The Southern Regional Assembly has prepared a Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) Cork City Council contributed to the RSES provides a long-term, strategic development framework for the future physical, economic and social development of the Southern Region and includes Metropolitan Area Strategic Plans (MASPs) to guide the future development of the Region’s thre e main cities and metropolitan areas – Cork, Limerick-Shannon and Waterford. ‘ Ensure: European Sustainable Urbanisation Through Port City Regeneration’ Glad to report that we are nearing the completion of the 1yr research project ENSURE. This small-to-medium European port city regeneration work includes a Final Report, Good Practice Handbook and 4 Case Studies on the Stakeholder Cities of Cork, Aalborg, Brest and Catania. This body of work will help inform Cork City Development Plan and Docklands Local Area Plans going forward. We will forward the website link next month to the adopted documents. In addition, Cork City Council has been successful in securing funding for workshops to tie in with the European Maritime Day (14-15 May 2020). This joint Port City workshop will be delivered in collaboration with Liam Lacey, Irish Maritime Development Office based on ‘Delivering the Ports of the Future’ and Angela Carpenter, University of G avle based on ‘European Port Cities in Transition’
Local Enterprise Offices (LEO) Two businesses ‘Nord Emporium’ www.nordemporium.com and ‘badly made books’ www.badlymadebooks.com exhibited at the Local Enterprise Showcase in the RDS, part of Showcase 2020, that saw over 2,700 buyers from retailers across the globe attend the four-day event in Dublin looking to secure new sales and partners for the year ahead.
